Troika Designs

Watching the Troika Design series on Lynda.com opened my eyes to the idea of a “brand.” Branding is a word that is thrown around often in the world of communications. However, Troika Designs showed me that branding is everything and everywhere. I had never thought that something like a television station, that hosts lost of other things I would consider “brands” would need its own brand! Troika explained that a brand helps emotionally connect the audience with the network, always illustrating who the brand is and who they are letting into their homes. Brands allow companies to make, remake, and update their identity based on the needs of their audience.

Troika is obviously amazing at their job. I say this because watching what they did for Stars and Fox was incredible: the themes Troika developed for both networks was so easy to see. Stars’ light theme is so representative of their network, as was the dramatic 3d in fox.

Watching these videos made me think of other things that have brands and the strategic decisions behind them. I love advertising and marketing and have been looking at job opportunities. Some of the companies I have been looking at have really unique companies as clients that I wouldn’t have considered “brands.” Some of these include museums and government agencies. Thanks Lynda.com for opening my eyes!
