Erasers and Q-Drums and birds, oh my!

This is yet another example in life that illustrates how literal of a person I am. I was expecting the designers to name specific piece of work, be it an ad, a piece of artwork, etc as a piece of design that inspires them. Instead, I got hummingbirds, erasers and the Q-drum. Hmmm. After those initial responses,  I personally was waiting for someone to say duct tape. Especially with the recent evolution of colored and patterned varieties. Who doesn’t love duct tape?

I probably liked Drenttel’s answer the most, ironically because he took a politicians stance and didn’t really answer it. He went for a broader, more encompassing response of designs that have an engagement and impact outside of themselves. I also liked his honesty in sharing how he has grown. It makes me wonder how different my views on design will be 10, 20 or even 30 years from now.

Hische’s response was also interesting – as a recent grad she’s inspired by current and future students. If she wants to stay competitive and keep her job, she needs to keep herself fresh, grounded and motivated. She also seemed the most “real” as a person from the videos I watched. And she at least acknowledge the notion of picking a specific piece of work as an answer, which made me feel better about myself. I want to know what Bucher has taken and make sure I never do!

The questions themselves are definitely not easy! Before Elon I had started a blog where I was posting things I came across that inspired me and explaining why. With all the blogs and other work for school, this has fallen by the wayside, but I hope to pick it back up soon. I have NO idea what I would say in response to either question, but I’ll definitely be pondering them in all my “leisure” time.
