Data Visualization

Data visualization is everywhere.  It is not something that I realized until recently, and now I am seeing it all the time. I did not realize that there was so much of a need for information design in this manner.  They kept talking about all of this data that is being produced and in order to share that data with the masses it needs to be more organized.  Data visualization is, I think, the best way to share information with people.  The great design of these visualizations draws you in, and then the information keeps you there.  It is however really tricky to have a visualization that is easy to read and intuitive to use.

The visualization with the air traffic across the United States was amazing, that no-fly zone particularly piqued my interest.  Beyond that you could literally see a map outline of the US based on nothing but the air traffic.  That was a unique visualization in that was complex yet simple at the same time.  It was a really unique way to present the information.

Data visualization is great because it puts that information out for everyone to see and understand.  It allows people to learn things in a quick and easy way.  With all of the new resources coming about to make data visualization more accessible it will surely grow by leaps and bounds.

Visualization is just a great way to convey information, but the hurtle that has to be overcome is to make these visualizations easily understandable to users.  Some of the examples they provided seemed extremely complicated, and the point is to easily convey data to users, and if the user cannot understand the information it is just a waste.

Prior to seeing this documentary I did not know how prevalent data visualization was becoming, but now I am seeing it everywhere, and readily seeking it out.  I am really looking forward to seeing where these visualizations go in the coming years, and what interesting information is within them.
