Stich Bitch: A Patchwork of ideals

From what I can understand from Stitch Bitch is the idea that a whole image does not necessarily convey and understanding of the big picture. Sometimes an examination of the individual segments of a subject need to be examined in order to understand the full meaning. The allusion that  Peter Donaldson presents is of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The Monster was composed not of one being, but several.

The article further goes on to the semantics of type and how it seemingly ties into the Gestalt Theory. The Organized Whole is meant to be a visual recognition for the mind. Donaldson  seems to argue that is not often the case. Take the example of the Yin-Yang symbol. It appears as though Yin and Yang are balanced and equal to one another. However, based on one’s perception, one of the halves would appear to be indented. Another example is the FED-EX logo. When one can see the distinctive letters, the arrow between the E and X is mostly unnoticed due to the garish colors.

This seems to be precisely the point. What is displayed is not always the complete picture. Our perception of reality is relative  as are our interpretations of images.
