The Article “Gestalt Principles of Perception” by Any Rutledge attempts to explain all of the gestalt principles in simple, easy to understand language. From what I understood he did a great job of explaining the Gestalt Principles. Unfortunately I could not comprehend the majority of what he wrote.
Gestalt principles, according to Mr. Rutledge, make the world of web design go round. Essentially its how the human mind group’s visual elements based on size, direction, similarity, proximity and several other elements.
Basically, its something that any web site designer needs to understand to some degree or their web sites will fail to properly captivate the viewer.
In last years Digital Media Convergence class I remember covering these principles. I didn’t really understand them then either, just well enough to pass the final. Honestly I think I would be able to comprehend these principles to a better degree if they were taught in a classroom and I didn’t have to read some gibberish written by the dear old Mr. Rutledge.
