Accessibility is something that is often overlooked. Rather it’s the addition of a handicap ramp or braille written beneath signs, it’s something that needs to be included so anyone can function as normally as possible. Accessibility for web design is much the same.
The Inclusion Principle was a healthy reminder that we are not making a website for only people our age or cat lovers. We are making it for everyone to access. I feel that anyone with the title of web designer should know that their website needs to be accessible. I know if I ever need one, or am a designer myself, I don’t deserve being called one if I ignore accessibility.
It’s tough to say if we should curtail a website to meet the target demographic, or make it easily available for everyone. It’s important to keep every facet; yourself, your business and your demographic in mind when designing web sites and keeping them accessible. I don’t think this article provided a clear answer. That’s not very accessible of them.
