Africana literature display
In observance of Black History Month, the Library book display features literature by African and African-American authors. As we continue to support the residents of Haiti, the display also includes works by Edwidge Danticat, a highly regarded Haitian-American author.
The book display coincides with the return of African-American Read-In Day on Friday, February 19.

Belk Library turns 10!
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Carol Grotnes Belk Library took place on March 11, 1998 and the 75,000 square-foot facility opened on January 31, 2000—making 2010 the 10 year anniversary of the building. With 158 computers, lots of comfy couches and chairs, and study rooms—Belk Library is almost always full of students and people from various departments on campus.

To celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Belk Library has several books and DVDs from our collection on display.
Any of the items on display can be checked out.

Belk Library holiday hours
Here are the library’s hours during the holiday break:
Tuesday, December 15: 7:30 am to 11:00 pm.
Wednesday, December 16: 7:30 am to 9:00 pm.
Beginning Thursday, December 17, Belk Library will be closed to the public until January 4. Elon students, faculty, and staff will be able to access the library with a valid Phoenix card. Please swipe your Phoenix card in the reader next to the library’s entrance during these hours:

International Education Week
Belk Library joins International Studies in celebrating International Education Week. Check out the display of books and movies related to countries and cultures of the Middle East. You will also find an arrangement of Middle Eastern artifacts and photography.

National French Week Nov. 4-11
Be sure to check out the books and movies on display now. The purpose of National French Week is “to increase our community’s understanding and appreciation of the francophone world by finding interesting and entertaining ways of looking at how French touches our lives as well as learning about the dozens of countries and millions of people who speak this beautiful language.”

Common reading at Belk
The author of this year’s Common Reading selection, Khaled Hosseini, will speak at Fall Convocation on Tuesday, October 13th at 4 p.m. in Alumni Gym. A Thousand Splendid Suns traces many unstable events in Afghanistan (during the 1960s-2003) and specifically focuses on the tumultuous lives of two Afghan women and how they cross paths with one another. Be sure to check out the book display in Belk Library during the week of October 12th. The library has prepared a Research Guide to help you find additional sources about subject areas discussed in A Thousand Splendid Suns. Hosseini is also the author of The Kite Runner, a 2003 bestseller.

Sounds of Game Night podcast
Belk Library’s new podcast features “The Sounds of Game Night.” Game night was hosted by the library on Friday, September 18, and was sponsored by the ACM student club. Students and staff gathered to play popular video games such as Halo 3 and Beatles Rock Band. Librarians Shaunta Alvarez and Patrick Rudd talked to students about their favorites games.
