The ACT Assistant Director for Community Service works to strengthen and expand ACT’s Alternative Break programs (known locally at Appalachian as Alternative Service Experiences – ASE), including both domestic and international efforts. The Assistant Director manages the recruitment, selection, and training of all student ASE Peer Leaders, and faculty & staff Learning Partners. This position works collaboratively with many offices and academic departments, in particular the Office of International Education and Development (OIED) and is responsible for ensuring the safety & risk management protocol for all break programs. Other ASE related responsibilities include oversight of ACT scholarship processes, and the annual service photo contest. Additionally, this staff member will help supervise and coordinate the educational efforts of one Graduate Assistant. This position will also hold oversight of two ACT major events (TBD), and partial oversight of other major events as needed, as well as serve as the main liaison with the Service & Leadership Residential Learning Community. The Assistant Director will informally teach student development and program planning principles to student leaders, graduate assistants, and interns.
