Assistant Director, Center for Civic Engagement, Pacific University

This is a new position that demonstrates the university’s commitment to civic engagement and reflects recent expansion of the CCE due to the implementation of an academic requirement and increased attention to development of a campus culture of engagement.

The Assistant Director will work in a collaborative setting with the Center director, with opportunities for professional development, innovation, and management.  The Assistant Director will be responsible for working with individual students and student groups on civic engagement projects and programs, and teaching courses that could include civic engagement leadership, mentoring, and domestic or international travel. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively with diverse populations and align curricular and co-curricular civic engagement activities with other university priorities, such as sustainability, and social justice. This is a ten-month position (August 1- May 31 of each year) with benefits, and the start date is August 1, 2013.  Applications will be accepted through April 30th, 2013.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited      school
  • At least two years of related      professional experience in one or more of the following areas: student      services, higher education, service-learning, civic engagement,      community-based research, student leadership development, student activities,      campus/community partnerships, public administration, volunteer      coordination, nonprofit management
  • Experience teaching, supervising,      or advising students or volunteers
