The April Snacking on Leadership event was held Thursday, April 18, and featured former Elon football player Mr. Bryan Burney. April’s event kicked off Pay It Forward Week at Elon, which is based on the movie of the same name and encourages people to do random acts of kindness as a catalyst for making the world a better place.
Mr. Burney, who is a lifelong Burlington resident, spoke about how to burst the Elon “bubble” and better connect with the surrounding community. Attendees asked questions regarding how to make a meaningful impact without stereotyping the concept of “service,” and how to invite the surrounding community into Elon’s often tight-knit space. In addition to facilitating a lively discussion, Mr. Burney gave valuable insight regarding the evolution of Elon during his lifetime, and offered to connect interested students with a local peer-mentoring program in the Burlington area.
