oaic awards

On April 4, 2013, members of Elon University’s most outstanding organizations and programs assembled at the eighteenth annual Organizational Awards and Inaugural Ceremony (OAIC) for the opportunity to celebrate this year’s winners and witness the transition in leadership in Student Government Association. This year’s program began with the farewell address by outgoing President Darien Flowers, who reflected upon the challenges of our past year and thanked all of campus’s organizations and programs for their contributions to the student body. Afterwards, SGA’s new Executive Board was sworn in and President Welsford Bishopric made his first public statements as Student Body President, expressing immense gratitude for his opportunity to serve the student body and assist all students to reach their potential.

After a delicious dinner, the awards ceremony began and the Center for Leadership had a standout night, winning the Highest GPA Award for a Campus Organization/Program and the Campus Program of the Year Award. The CFL was praised for their work collaborating with other organizations as well as implementing new programs, particularly the fledgling LEAD Program which has seen tremendous participation amongst Elon students and shows great promise for the future. Additionally, after winning the Highest GPA Award for the third year in a row, the CFL asserted itself as a group that provides excellent programing to students while holding exceptional academic standards among its members.

The OAIC was an awesome opportunity for all who attended to celebrate the achievements of our peers but for members of the CFL, the evening was also a chance to reflect upon their successes and find new motivation to continue providing Elon students with meaningful opportunities for leadership development. The work towards an OAIC nomination in 2014 starts today and the CFL will certainly be working hard to earn some new hardware next spring!
