Womble Carlyle and the Research Triangle Area Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel Present:
Data Transfer Without Safe Harbors
Program Description
The cross-border transfer of data has never been an easy or settled topic, but thanks to a 2015 European Court of Justice decision, the status of data transfer is less certain, clouding decisions for companies doing business in the EU. Experts and regulators have given opinions, but no one has resolved the primary issue – how must a company treat personal information from the EU and Switzerland? Poorly written laws, inconsistent enforcement and new regimes further complicate the issue. This ACC-sponsored presentation will
- Explore the current state of International Data Transfer Laws
- Examine clarifying or corrective measures that may be forthcoming
- Provide suggested options for managing international data in the mean time
- Review the risk profiles of different types of U.S. businesses that receive International personal data
