Visual Effects–Design & Conquer

From I was a twinkle in my mother’s eye, she and everyone around me would always know me as the one to go above and beyond. Any one of my teachers could attest that I had a creative ambition that was higher than normal. A passion that I displayed in my anime-like drawings for class assignments in elementary school to poster-mark-ups with highlighters, glitter and gel pens for group presentations in middle school. I’ve always had a knack for the abstract, artistry elements in life–and being left-handed & right-minded, I believed it just came natural. When I grew older, there came a more pressing issue: how can I create an intriguing illustration & not put pen to paper? —Draws blank.

Until my second year of college, my taste for design was only two-dimensional. Pen & pad, paintbrush & canvas–it was always what I could animate with my hands. In my latter years of college, I did explore art-creating using computer software, but my delve was what many professionals would call superficial, and although I mustered together what abstract illusions I could make with inDesign and Scrapblog.com, I hardly understood what it signified to be a computer artist. More specifically, a digital designer.

Coming into terms with the road ahead, as well as the work required from a web design professional, I understand that one must have a concise understanding of the project at hand and more importantly, the tools that will make for successful completion of the task. Just as a doctor knows to use the scalpel or sculptor knows how to use the chisel, so it is necessary for a digital artist to know the tools necessary to design effectively and professionally.

Entering the classroom, I carry all the experience of a traditional artist, but very little, if any of a web/interface designer. While taking this course, I hope to master the tools used to manipulate aesthetics and alter the course of visual perception. Moreover, I hope to change perspectives and essentially lives with my designs. I also want to be challenged to think critically in terms of art, become familiar with the various elements, and learn how  to be Picasso-awe inspiring with photo-manipulation. =)
