Week 3: What Is Art and Does It Matter?

Week 3: What Is Art and Does It Matter?

Bruce Lee once famously said “The highest art is no art, the highest form is no form.”

And to a certain extent, I agree with this. I feel as though once some one has completely mastered a craft, that they can only create true innovation when they cease to think and they let their instances carry their work. To over think an action, is to cripple its chance of being unique. But this concept is not absolute.

If I have seen further it is by standing on ye sholders of Giants-ISAC NEWTON

With that said, I also must admit that during a pupil’s education in form, they must study the previous masters. It’s only by understanding where previous maters have reached new heights that the student can hope to active their own. We students of art and design must understand and be aware of all the artistic movements so that we can define our work and the work of our peers. Artists are influenced by artistes, that is the long and short of it.

It is very important to know about industry leaders in our field. We can learn from their triumphs, and some day soon these same people will be our rivals. Model your behavior after those who have succeeded and success might visit you as well.

Truthfully the only way to achieve all this knowledge is by actively seeking it. Reading, watching and overall questing for a higher understanding. That…Or just go to grad school and have the knowledge force fead to you.
