Designing my future

Out of all the classes that I’ve taken this semester, this was probably the hardest class for a number of reasons. Yes there are basic rules to art, but there are no right or wrong answers. If your able to back up your work, you can convince anybody that it is great. I’m not a creative person by trade. Art to me takes work and time to create. That’s probably one of the biggest lessons I’ve gotten out of this class. Not waiting til the last minute to put something together and sketching out ideas as soon as we know that the assignment is. Looking at other pieces of work for inspiration. I will admit my work will not sell out in art galleries, but I now know what it takes to put a basic piece together.

Sketching and making mock copies is just like studying for a test. Your preparing yourself for when you get to the final composition. If you don’t take the time to prepare, you will be stressing yourself out for hours trying to come up with an idea. I think visual aesthetics is important when the work is interactive because it has to be appealing to the eye to keep people coming back. Just like old school art such as an oil painting, interactive art has to be thought out and put together piece by piece.

My increased sophistication with visual content will impact me in a more positive way when looking for jobs over the next couple of months. Being able to back up my work and explain how I created it is very important. Also describing to people what inspired me when working on a assignment or project is important too. With the economy the way it is and more and more people going into fields that deal with the digital world, visualizing appealing work can stand out on its own.
