Variety in motion

The Art of the Title and Forget the Film, Watch the Titles websites have fantastic libraries of title sequences and the information to help the viewer understand the artistic and technical process that goes into creating them. Motion graphics is easily becoming my greatest ambition these days. I am fascinated with the endless possibilities there are within the realm motion graphics. Designers are blending the worlds of 3D animation, video, photography, 2D graphics, typography, music, sound, camera movements, and lighting. With every sequence I have watched from these two sites, I realize that, specifically in regard to typography, variation is only constant star. The visual style of the type is crucial to conveying the message and developing the tone of the titles, but the variation in which that style appears and exits the sequence is where the true creativity lies. The most interesting titles may have consistent visual style throughout, but they are always varying the movements and positioning of the text to make every entrance and exit unique. It would be much more simple and Bauhaus for there to be a formula for every entrance and exit, but the words would begin to fade into the background of the sequence, losing the viewers interest. This inspires me to take my work further, with more intention, and less of a formula.
