Interface design

I’m ashamed to admit that it took me 5 minutes, of the 5:45 that the video is, to figure out that the video on the site was lagging.  I couldn’t figure out what he was talking about, or why he was talking about this image for three minutes.  Then I clicked the YouTube link and realized that the image I looked at for about three minutes was only on the screen for a second.  In case I thought I wasn’t jet lagged, there is the proof that I am.

Once I got that problem solved though, I was able to follow along clearly with the speaker.  I found that because had the iPhone 3 and now I have the iPhone 4S, I saw that some of the inadequacies of the design have been met with new information design, and even between the last IOS update and the current there have been major changes.  One thing in particular stuck out for me:

Content is the interface, information is the interface.

When information is presented on the same surface and you are able to eliminate administrative debris, the information has more of an opportunity to be seen as the most important element.  Administrative debris detracts.  Interestingly I think by removing the complicated debris, the usability increased so much that the IOS interface is not something complicated to figure out.  Children know how to use it intuitively, people who have never used computers are able to figure it out.  Although its only been around a few years, the interface continues to develop and change every few months as the engineers at Apply come up with creative new ways to navigate the information that we keep central in our lives.
