Creepily Cute? Adorably Terrifying?

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistance blew my mind.

I find myself torn between describing it as creepily cute and adorably terrifying – maybe I’m just weird, I don’t know?

One thing I do know for sure is that there is a brilliant mind behind this animation. Not once during this title sequence did I feel like the artist was stretching to type into the sequence. Names and titles were organically incorporated into the scene – falling into frame on puppet strings, slithering across the ground like a snake, being woven by spider – they fit naturally into the action. And in addition to these little touches, it seemed every time I watched this title sequence I discovered another detail that added to the magic of this animation. The tree branches that try to grab the words from the puppets were actually little hands, the big block letters transform into graves as the camera zooms closer, what you think is a tree is actually the rib cage of a person. As I worked on my kinetic typography assignment I felt like I was constantly struggling to naturally transition from sequence to sequence. I appreciate how much thought and work went into creating such seamless transitions and the brilliance behind them.
