Dark and Quirky Shorts

That was the most animated drama I’ve seen in 3 minutes.  The Pica Towers trilogy: The Good News, Hounds of Flesh and Pizza Sangre took me to a dark place but kept  myattention. It is important to watch the videos in order so that you can follow the short script.  Watching Pica Towers by Marc Craste reminds me a lot of famous producer Tim Burton.  Both producers have made a way of playing on dark and quirky themed films.  I really liked how all the characters in the movie were old televisions and metal devices, even the dog. In watching the films I counted 7 characters throughtout the short films and four of them ended up dead.  There were not enough character build up within the films to get an understanding of how they were all connected and who they were.

All three movies told a story with the use of no-dialog (unless you  count the dog barking).  If you pay careful attention you can see how parts of one film leads into another.  I had to watch all three films several times to get a better understanding of the storyline and at the end there are still some unanswered questions.  Maybe Craste wanted to leave the missing pieces of the movie to the audiences’ imagination. I thought watching the film several times would help me understand the storyline a little better but it left my mind wondering in several directions and making up my own conclusions. Overall, it was a great film and I’d watch it again.
