The day I didn’t have my phone on me

I was at a tech conference that encouraged tweeting. #fail.

But it’s ok. I did take over 150 pictures of iMedia interacting and hanging out in the conference. Including a few paparazzi shots of you, Phil, hanging in the crowd. I hope they get published on the site.

But it was a really interesting day. Other than getting more comfortable with the 7Ds (Costa Rica, here I come), I learned a lot from Gaspare Marturano, who was hilarious and informative. He spoke about how to monetize blogs and how to increase awareness for your site. Something I’ve never really put together in my head is that running a blog for the purpose of making money is actually a business, and you have to plan accordingly. You wouldn’t just go “today I open a pizza shop!” and assume everything will just work itself out. It requires planning and business strategies. You have to find a niche and market it to the right people.

Other than Gaspare, the 5 and dine was terrific. The more tips we have to be professional social media experts, the better. Yeah, it’s something that comes pretty naturally to us, but learning how and when to post is something we need to take into consideration.

Overall, the conference was awesome, and I want to go to something else like it soon.
