Story of Interactive Stuff

While watching the The Story of Stuff this week really bought to mind, my civil duty to do my part in keeping my part of the world a little cleaner.  One of the stories that I watched was the story of bottled water.  I’m guilty.  I always buy bottled water and I prefer it over tap water.  I feel guilty because I usually drink bottled water because I don’t like to wash dishes.  But I feel that I still do my part by recycling all my bottles.  After watching this video it  really makes me rethink if that way of think is really worth it.

The Story of Stuff does a great job on converging more than one type of interactive media.  They used video, cartoon graphics, texts and active links within the video.  The creater did a great job of applying cartoon graphics to explain what has the potential to be very technical and boring.  It puts in me in the mind set of an interactive infographic.

Margot Roosevelt in her article titled, “LA Times: It’s a cartoon, but she’s serious” wrote, “Annie Leonard used to spout jargon.  She revealed in the sort of geek-speak that glazes your eyeballs.”  The information that that Anne explains is something that everyone should be an active player in.  I never put so much thought about my effects on the environment when I purchase bottled water.  This site does a awesome job using graphics to explain complex information that provokes the average consumer to think twice.
