I mean, who wouldn’t want to be famous?

When I think of famous people, I more often think of celebrities than graphic designers. In reality, we are confronted with graphic design every day of our lives. All the posters, advertisements and photos we see are all created by graphic designers. Until this class, I did not even know the name of the graphic designers with whose work I was familiar with. Some of the best advice Michal Bierut gave was in order to create a good piece of work, you have to do lots of it. By creating a lot of work, then you can narrow down your idea and present it in the best way possible. Great design doesn’t just happen. You need to work at it.

 

Plagiarism

Plagiarism normally has a bad connotation attached to it. Yet as designers, the best way to prepare to begin a work is to study other people’s work. Looking at design is a way to get the creative juices flowing. If your famous and popular, people will copy your work. Copying style is a compliment. Most likely, people look at something, store it in their memories, forget where it came from and recall it later. How can you be completely sure that anything you create is completely yours?
