Rick Morris-Creative Inspirations

The introduction to the Rick Morris short is very creative and the use of the motion typography is very captivating and aesthetically pleasing. Once again the demonstration of using a storyboard to capture your ideas before the actual initiation is confirmed and can be a helpful to to execute your ideas before aimlessly figuring it out in the program that generates such ideas.

The segment on the topic of ‘Rick’s Reel’ is a creative and inspirational piece. The demonstration of using motion typography over video and mixing it with a genre of 60’s, vintage looking movies is well done. It captures his portfolio in a creative way, by not only showcasing his work, but making it more lively and interesting instead of looking static and having a page by page look and feel so to speak. This segment plays to his creative mind in demonstrating an out of the box way of thinking and changing up the way one can present their work. Transitioning into the next segment are some very good words in how one should make their reel. When he say’s it’s not about how much content one has but the quality of that content is so true. It should not be about padding the reel to showcase in length, but the quality of the work you want to showcase.

When Rick speaks of where the inspiration comes from when he gets ideas is key to what I believe. Inspiration lies all around and also in the way you change things to find new inspiration and creativity. Especially when he discusses the arrangement of the way he sets up his home. Nothing has to be permanent or set in stone, but can be rearrange to derive new sources of inspiration and feeling. Through the rearrangement of structure and looks one can derive new sources of inspiration. I believe in this strongly. It’s a way of looking at things and getting inspired by having looked at it with a fresh set of eyes.

When Rick discusses his tools I am in agreement with the pen/pencil as being the first tool of choice you should go to. The computer, as he has stated, was his second choice in tool, more to create very complex shapes and structures. The pen/pencil is a great first tool that can be a complex tool that can wield a world of complexity in its simplicity. You can spend hours getting nowhere with a computer wandering almost aimlessly around and with a pen/pencil you can get a world of thoughts, ideas and inspiration with just a simple tool on paper.

I found great insight in what Rick Morris had to say and also found his execution of his thoughts to product well showcased. This was a great watch and in the future I will be proactive in using his techniques that I don’t currently use to better develop my ideas and executing a well develop end product.
