iPhone interface design

Edward Tufte is clearly extremely excited about iPhone interface design!  Even though he is relatively monotone throughout his exploration of the iPhone he does bring up some good points about how the interface is set up, however he is using an older version of the iOS software, I am not sure which one but it was before the iPhone 3GS.

He points out that the weather interface is somewhat lacking in its information (he also points this out for stocks, but I do not use that feature).  There have been a number of times that I wanted the weather interface to provide me with more information, or at least link me up to a source where I can get a more detailed interpretation of the weather.  However the design is good and every time I see the rain/snow graphic at the top of the weather interface it makes me a little happy inside.

Tufte also points out the flaw with the web browsing interface in that the bottom bar takes up at least 10% of the overall page (I think this has changed a bit, it does not look as dominating on my phone).  The screenshots he was providing made the browsing interface look a little crowded and uncomfortable, but such is the nature of the mobile web.

Overall seeing this video made me appreciate the technology and design I often take for granted.  The ease of use of the iPhone photo interface is a feat within itself, and any other errors or design drawbacks are easy to overlook when you have the device at your fingertips.  There is also the option of writing to Jonathan Ive and telling him your thoughts on iPhone interface design!
