Eerie and on purpose

Pica Towers is an eerie and slightly confusing animation narrative. The three part series is successful at the eerie part through the animation style, the contrast of light and dark composition, and the sound mixing at integral parts. I think this success is slightly over shadowed by the fact that I don’t actually understand what is happening, what the overall story/message is, or how I do or don’t fit into it. I like the playful characteristics of the tv/robot creatures and their contrast with the seeming ominous, dangerous, death filled story is definitely interesting and perhaps makes the story more confusing. Overall I like the feeling of the animations, very Tim Burton esque, but what I really wish is that I knew what the creature at the beginning was, why the creator was hanged, who the killer is, what pizza has to do with anything, and most of all how TVs can “eat”.
