Hillman Curtis Artist Series

The Hillman Curtis Artist Series was both intriguing and inspiring.  I like how all of the artists and designers in all of the films we watch are such characters with such bold opinions.  While watching the short films, I wrote down little snippets I found to be the most noteworthy.

Lawrence Wiener said design is of the moment.

Stefan Sagmeister said worrying solves nothing.

Mark Romance said, if you have a chair, and it’s more emotionally engaging to break the chair, break the chair.

Milton Glassier said he is fortunate that he is still astonished, referring to the fact that he works in a field where learning never ends.

David Carson said the starting point is to try to interpret something.

and Paul Scher said that computer work doesn’t smell like an art supply, it smells like a car.

All of these artists have very unique and poignant observations about what art is and how it functions.  The biggest commonality from artist to artist is the strong belief in what they do.
