Captured Insight, from Hillman Curtis’s Artist Series

“When [artists] find themselves in a situation where there’s an unaccommodating structure and it is an immovable you figure out some way to go over it or under it or around it. You don’t just stand there and say ‘ok I’ll draw in it.’ The same basic principal: you’ve got to be who you are. No matter how dangerous it is.” -Lawrence Weiner

“Worrying solves nothing.” -Milton Glaser

At this point I decided that this blog post was going to be comprised of quotations I took away from these films. That first quote summed up the months prior to starting iMedia. Last summer strained some relationships I had with musicians, but ultimately lead me to the most talented artists/musicians I’ve ever worked with.

“At the end of the day the only thing that’s really important is ‘is this somehow emotionally engaging to people?’ Then at a certain point, if you’re at all wise, you go, ‘nothing matters but that.'” -Mark Romanek

“My beliefe is that if you like Mozart and I like Mozart we already have something in common.  …Artists provide that gift to culture so that people have something in common.” -Milton Glaser

At this point I decided that I like Milton Glaser.

“The answer in my view is ‘who’s the next partner?’ Worrying about who the next partner is is really what our business plan is about. Because if you get that right everything else follows.” -Unidentified, from Pentagram ’07

About designing the Citi Bank logo on a napkin: “How can it be that you talk to somebody and it’s done in a second? But it is done in a second! It’s done in a second and 34 years.” -Paula Scher

“I think for an artist, your happiness is really tied up in your work. And if you’re not doing great work, you’re not gonna be happy.” -Unidentified, from Pentagram ’06

“Having guts always works out for me.” -Stefan Sagmeister

Overall, I looked at these videos through my musical lens. If you understand that, these quotes might make more sense. I took the advice and insight that spoke to me as an artist.
