To Use or Abuse: The World Wide Web

The Internet really is so empowering.  The sky isn’t even the limit – It’s where it all begins. It’s a giant open window of opportunity. Although it all began 39 years ago, in 1974, the Internet has evolved so rapidly that what it is today is really incomparable. And although our parents became familiar with this resource as young adults, their experience with the Internet was incomparable to ours. Our experience with the Internet is so unique – we are writing history.

While anybody could argue that the Internet makes us more efficient, more knowledgeable and more connected – anybody could argue the exact opposite. Yeah I could send out 10 job applications at once, but I could also get lost on Pinterest for hours on end and accomplish absolutely nothing. I could stumble upon a qualified and informative news article or just as easily come across a biased but dangerously believable piece. And while I can connect with over 1,000 friends on Facebook, wouldn’t it be healthier to meet one or two friends for a face-to-face conversation over coffee?

Of course it’s all about using our tools wisely, making good choices and being informed. With relatively no barriers to entry, we’re on our own to set boundaries and standards. By standards, I mean that we should do our best to earn this privilege by being educated users. And this online book was a great place to start.
