I’d never imagined the term “affordance” being applied to web design. But it makes sense after reading this article. It’s like an instinct, we just know what to do with it. But not everyone does, and that’s why we need accessible web design.
Most of what we have learnt in this class is in direct accordance with being accessible to all. Alt attributes, semantic structure, color contrast. Though it does make me wary going into our next project, especially because it is for a client. I don’t want to miss something and have multiple people unable to access my webpage because I was ignorant of their disability.
I also don’t understand how there are professional web developers out there who are ignorant of accessible web design. It’s not only the law but and industry standard. How does a company hire someone to create their website if they are either unaware or too lazy and ignorant to implement such a simple tool for worldwide accessibility.
