As a visual and practical learner this article was much more useful than the textbook which literally put me to sleep.
I thought floats were just left or right, you put a picture here or there and your text wraps around it like in Microsoft Word. After starting my the CSS for our first project however, I realised it wasn’t as simple as it sounded and cause more problems than layout solutions. Unfortunately I didn’t read this article until AFTER I had already completed my website. *Insert facepalm here*
Learning how to use the clear property was helpful and I know it will come in handy next time. But I still don’t understand the overflow, I mean I get it, it’s useful, but why is the overflow “hidden” when it has in fact extended the box below the image in order to contain it and have the layout look better?
Another thing that confused me was when the author began talking about a pseudo selector, using “after.” But he didn’t tell me what it did, why I would do it or when to use it?
The majority of this article sunk in, but as a visual learner I need more pictures and pretty things to look at, some metaphors wouldn’t go astray either..
