Why Does Clean Markup Matter in Web Design?

As an avid fewer of “Friends,” there is a particular scene in which Joey writes a letter of recommendation for Monica and Chandler when they are applying to adopt a baby. In order to seem more impressive, he alters his language by using a thesaurus to come across more impressive. Simply put, it fails.

“Why does Clean Markup Matter in Web Design” shows us the same principles of writing can occur in web design. As I design my first website, I can see why this is such an important rule. Symbols and text are everywhere in HTML.  If we don’t maintain the basics of coding and keep it clean and organized, we’ll never progress to a more intricate stage.

Earlier today, I had a spare arrow sign hidden somewhere within my coding that was showing up on my web design. I found it after a few minutes of searching, but the problem would never have arrived if I had removed some of the extraneous clutter.

The passage about doing it right the first time hit very close to home for me. As managing editor of The Pendulum, I’m the last round of edits to see the pages. In other words, it has to go through three different groups of people before I even see a page.  This can mean long nights if someone at some point in the process takes a short cut which affects the whole article or page design.

We are basically relearning the basics of writing, just in a different format, so it’s important to not go too ahead of ourselves. Maintain a balanced structure, lengthy does not always mean better and never have too many divs. Most importantly of all, proofread your work before turning it in.  If I can remember these rules, maybe I will save myself some unneeded stress and trouble later on.
