This past Friday the Elon Law Small Business & Entrepreneurship Clinic attended GTCC’s 10th Annual Small Business Summit. The summit was held at the Cameron Conference Center. We heard from an array of speakers and influencers in the Greensboro area. Including, Nancy Vaughan the Mayor of Greensboro, Piedmont Business Capital with a financial panel, and Keith Sonderling from the U.S. DOL Wage & Hour Division. There were many opportunities to hear from local entrepreneurs, here are a few of the ones we saw.

Elon Law had its time to shine as professor John Flynn, featured below, presented ‘Choosing Your Legal Structure’. He covered every inch of the decision-making process that is involved in forming one’s legal entity. He also provided a detailed description of what the Elon Law Small Business & Entrepreneurship Clinic, the Collab, has to offer.

Later, we had the privilege of hearing from Justin Nifong, of NK Patent Law. He presented on the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ of intellectual property. From copyrights to patents to trademarks and trade secrets, he defined what each are; how they are different; and detailed what individuals need to know about such, such as, how to file for each of them.

Lastly, we attended ‘Small Business Bookkeeping’ hosted by Chad Collins with Chad Collins & Associates. He not only went over how to diligently keep records for one’s business and the importance of separating one’s personal expenses from business expenses; but he also highlighted the help the Collab has given to entrepreneurs in the area.

It is a privilege to be doing our residency at the Elon Law Small Business & Entrepreneurship Clinic. Working with such well-known businesses and lawyers, pushes students like us to work to better the Greensboro community, one small business at a time. John Flynn continues to represent Elon Law with pride, and we thank him for all he has done for the Greensboro area.
