David W. Orr is an internationally recognized leader in the field of sustainability and environmental education. He is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies & Politics, Emeritus of Oberlin College and served as “Counselor to the President” of Oberlin College for ten years. Dr. Orr is the author of eight books, including Dangerous Years: Climate Change and the Long Emergency and Down to the Wire: Confronting Climate Collapse, and co-editor of three others. He has authored over 220 articles, reviews, book chapters and professional publications. In the past twenty-five years, Dr. Orr has served as a board member or adviser to ten foundations and on the boards of many organizations including the Rocky Mountain Institute and the Aldo Leopold Foundation. He is currently directing a project on “The State of American Democracy”. Dr. Orr outlines the challenges faced by the sustainability movement and democratic systems, strategies to address them and the importance of a thriving democracy to moving toward a more sustainable society.
