Associate Director of Community Service Learning, University of Redlands

Reporting to the Director of Community Service Learning (CSL), the Associate Director is responsible for reporting on all matters of service involvement related to University outreach and children’s programs.
• Administers the America Reads Challenge, service oriented non-profit work-study outreach and various after-school programs.
• Assists in the supervision of professional staff, student staff, and volunteer interns for the Office of CSL both on campus and in the field of service.
• Assists in the planning and daily development of CSL staff, which includes basic tasks or coordination of event logistics, advising roles and training.
• Administers and manages all aspects of Jasper’s Corner, (on and off campus) the University tutorial sites, pairing college homework assistants with area children.
• Manages risk management and program logics for CSL children’s programs.
• Advises fundraising efforts for children’s programs and manages student employment budgets.
• Works to maintain current award programs and seeks new funding opportunities to support service-learning outreach.
• Assists the Director of Student Employment with the University of Redlands off-campus work-study program specifically in the area of non-profit and school work study placements.
• Facilitates a May Term service class (or other classes under development) which includes class times, service, visitations, reflection exercises, and grading.
• Assists in community on- and off-campus committee work with City of Redlands, Redlands Unified School District, and others as they develop.
• Supervises the CSL Coordinators, Graduate Management Intern, Graduate Assistants and student interns who are responsible for various projects throughout the year such as our Compassion Collection, May Break, Peace Corps-AmeriCorps recruitment, Spring Break Plunges, service appreciation and recognition, Admitted Student Day, Summer Bridge, Relay for Life, holiday service projects and awareness campaigns.
• Assists the CSL Director to ensure a successful Community Service Activity (CSAC) experience for all students. Handles information meetings, manages the office in the Director’s absence, counsels students in CSAC placements, holds group reflections and grades.
• Works independently and cooperatively on year-end reporting, website development and program development.
• Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Education or related field is required. A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in a similar position required or an equivalent combination thereof. Master’s degree preferred. Valid driver’s license required; upon offer of employment, a current DMV printout showing a good driving record will be required. Successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills; ability to make decisions on the behalf of student employees and the University regarding outreach and involvement; strong written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of tutorial techniques and child development; knowledge of student development theory; familiarity of computer programs; and knowledge of safety issues for students and children. Specific knowledge and experience of using the Internet, E-mail and be competent in a variety of Windows-based computer programs including Word and Excel. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
