Director of the Bonner Institute for Civic and Community Engagement, The College of New Jersey

The College of New Jersey’s Center for Community Engaged Learning and Research (CELR) invites candidates to apply for the position of Director of the Bonner Institute for Civic and Community Engagement. Housed in the CELR Center, the Bonner Institute coordinates the TCNJ Bonner Community Scholars program and campus-wide civic engagement initiatives.

This position is an excellent opportunity to direct one of the largest Bonner Community Scholars programs in the United States, while working regularly with a varied and diverse range of stakeholders, including TCNJ students, faculty, and staff, Bonner Foundation staff, community organization staff, and community members. The Director is energetic, compassionate, creative, and committed to the holistic development of an intentionally diverse group of passionate and engaged students and to the development of meaningful and substantive relationships with community members and community organizations. The Director is able to work effectively with multiple offices on- and off-campus and to ensure TCNJ Bonners are supported in their academic, personal, and professional efforts. The Director serves as mentor, leader, educator, and motivator for the Bonner Community Scholars and a liaison between TCNJ and the greater Trenton community.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the CELR Center, and supervising and supporting two Bonner Coordinators and two full-time AmeriCorps members, the Director provides leadership of and supervision over TCNJ’s Bonner Community Scholars program. Part of a national network of Bonner programs, the TCNJ Bonner Community Scholars program provides students leadership development and scholarship support through a four-year program of civic engagement and community service. Committed to the values of social justice and diversity of communities and cultures, a TCNJ Bonner dedicates 300 hours each academic year to direct service, community development, and civic engagement on campus and in the Trenton and Mercer County region.

Working closely with the Executive Director, the CEL Director, and the Research and Initiatives Program Manager, the Director contributes to the strategic development of community engagement opportunities for the TCNJ community and implementation of the CELR Center’s and TCNJ’s strategic plans.
