Director of the Center for Community Learning, Undergraduate Education Initiatives, UCLA

UCLA seeks a transformative and collaborative academic administrator to serve as Director of its Center for Community Learning within the Division of Undergraduate Education. The Director provides strategic and administrative leadership to the Center, to the broader campus community, and to external partners, centrally positioning the Center and its nationally recognized suite of programs within the ongoing campus evolution of civic engagement. Guiding the Center into its next century, the Director will engage undergraduates, faculty, and community partners to expand and enrich service learning, internships, and other community-based curricula, integrating the teaching, research, and service interests of faculty with the needs and priorities of community partners in Los Angeles, the state, nation, and around the world. Civic engagement is a central element of UCLA’s Centennial vision; as such, the Director shall provide the vision and leadership to position civic engagement as a cornerstone to undergraduate education at UCLA.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a doctoral degree and academic scholarship relevant to the field of civic engagement, as well as significant experience directing programs or centers, working with community partners and supervising staff. The ideal candidate should have teaching and research expertise within civic engagement and higher education; demonstrated leadership and communication skills, including effective public speaking skills for settings both on and off campus; experience creating new curricula and programs; experience with strategic planning; and the ability to advance the mission and goals of the Center in collaboration with other members of the Division of Undergraduate Education and the broader campus community.

The Center for Community Learning supports civic engagement for UCLA undergraduates and faculty through the integration of teaching, research and service alongside community partners. The Center actively promotes good citizenship, leadership and social justice through service learning, internships and other community-based learning experiences. In collaboration with campus academic departments, the Center offers UCLA undergraduates the opportunity to participate in civic engagement through a variety of structured, rigorous academic courses that link theory with practice. The research interests of faculty and students are connected to the needs and priorities of community partners throughout Los Angeles and in the state, nation and larger global community.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position salary range is $93,576 to $128,376/year.

Position remains open until filled. This is a full-time (100% time) position, with a projected August 2018 start date.

By March 16, 2018, interested parties are requested to submit a cover letter of application that specifically addresses the position’s responsibilities and the required/preferred qualifications stated above, a current CV, a statement of experience in teaching, research and contributions to diversity, and the names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers of three references, through the UCLA Academic Recruit portal:https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/apply/JPF03501
