Community Service Specialist, Brandeis University

 

Brandeis University seeks to hire a Community Service Specialist to provide students with the unique option to enhance their education and work experience beyond the traditional classroom through community engagement.

Examples of Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise student leaders engaged in co-curricular community service initiatives, including but not limited to, the Waltham Group with over 75 student coordinators who oversee 1,250 annual volunteers that participate in 20 programs in partnership with 40 community partners. Ensure development of student leaders and volunteers through intentional programs and trainings. Support logistics of student-run volunteer programs including, but not limited to transportation, budget, volunteer recruitment, volunteer training, assessment, and reflection.
  • Provide leadership to Waltham Group Co-presidents to facilitate and also attend weekly Waltham Group Leadership meetings, team days, trainings and reflections, including Monday Nights from 7-8pm.Serve on-call for after hour events and emergencies.
  • Research, develop, and implement student leadership trainings and events for students engaged in community service efforts. Topics may include career development, volunteer retention, cultural responsibility, community needs assessment, crisis management, policies and procedures, reflections, volunteer orientations, assessment, building community partnerships, professionalism, communication and a variety of other topics as determined by common best practices.
  • Collaborate with on campus partners for co-sponsored events, student leadership development, grant writing, and serve as departmental rep for diversity & inclusion efforts. Serve on committees as a proxy for the Department of Community Service.
  • Maintain and develop risk management policies and procedures that compliment students engaged in volunteer outreach.  Responsibilities include CORI, volunteer waivers, Community Service & Learning Agreements, permission slips, photo releases, and van guidelines. Collaborate with Director to maintain, evaluate, and expand community partners in the Waltham and Greater Boston communities by addressing community needs and improving town gown relations.
  • Supervise grant funded AmeriCorps VISTA position, Waltham Group Graduate Assistant and other positions which are secured from fundraising and grant writing.
  • Teach 2 Credit Community Engagement Practicum course.
