Merit Scholarship Program Coordinator

Job Summary: The Office of Undergraduate Scholars and Fellows (OUSF) is seeking a creative and organized individual with excellent interpersonal skills and financial expertise to provide support for merit scholarship programs within a complex office focused on academic and intellectual engagement for highly motivated Duke students. The Merit Scholarships Program (MSP) Coordinator will contribute to the OUSF mission of promoting intellectual engagement on campus by managing OUSF’s domestic scholarship programs and serving as a primary point of contact for the scholars and for the foundations supporting them. The MSP Program Coordinator will serve as the point of contact for OUSF- affiliated scholar programs such as the Washington Duke Scholars.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. The ideal candidate will have experience working with high achieving students. Knowledge of Duke foundation relations and experience in working with the Duke financial system is highly desired.

Job duties:

  • In consultation with the MSP Associate Director, the MSP Program Coordinator will serve the A.B. Duke, B.N. Duke, University, Reginaldo Howard, Trinity, and Alumni Scholars Programs. Serve as liaison with OUSF-affiliated scholar groups such as the Washington Duke Scholars.
  • Serve as a mentor for Scholars.
  • Serve as liaison between Faculty Directors and scholars, scheduling campus meetings and assisting with scheduling programming events for the scholars
  • In conjunction with Faculty Directors and Graduate Assistants, develop and implement meaningful programming for Scholars within each program and across programs.
  • With Associate Director MSP and Faculty Directors, coordinate summer programming, including the BN Duke Summers of Service and the AB Duke in Oxford program.
  • Support Graduate Assistants with guiding scholars through enrichment fund application process and approve appropriate projects.
  • Coordinate annual scholar selection process. Recruit faculty for application review committee, read all applications and distribute to appropriate faculty, work with students to plan and implement finalist campus visit, organize on-campus interviews
  • With the OUSF Logistics team, develop MSP website which includes policies and procedures for each program.
  • Develop and implement alumni databases, create an alumni website, reach out the alumni via phone calls, emails, and plan annual events.
  • Serve as a liaison for Duke with the Foundations
  • Assist in the preparation of all reporting in a timely manner with attention to FERPA guidelines and Duke regulations.
  • Monitor and verify expenditures for aid and operating expenses in compliance with the Foundations and Duke policy.
  • Other duties, as necessary.

Nationally Competitive Scholarship Program Coordinator

Job Summary: The Office of Undergraduate Scholars and Fellows (OUSF) is seeking a creative and organized individual with excellent interpersonal skills to provide support for Nationally Competitive Scholarship (NCS) advising within a complex office focused on academic and intellectual engagement for highly motivated Duke students. The NCS Program Coordinator will contribute to the OUSF mission of promoting intellectual engagement on campus by conducting outreach to and advising for major national scholarships, including (but not limited to), the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, Mitchell, Gates, Churchill, Truman, Beinecke, and Udall.)

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Knowledge and experience with nationally competitive scholarships either as an advisor, or as a recipient is highly desired. The applicant must have demonstrated experience with website and social media management.

  • In consultation with the NCS Associate Director, the NCS Program Coordinator will:
    • Fulbright Program Coordinator
    • Administer the application process for Duke’s Fulbright U.S. Student application process.
  • Establish a manageable workflow.
  • Recruit undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program at Duke.
  • Conduct Fulbright workshops and information sessions.
  • Mentor applicants for the Fulbright.
  • Organize and manage the Campus Committee Evaluation process.
  • With the Sr. Program Coordinator, manage press releases regarding the Fulbright.
  • Scholarship Advisor for Undergraduate Nationally Competitive Scholarships
    • Serve as the primary advisor for nationally competitive scholarships geared toward first and second-year students.
    • Advertise scholarship opportunities to target population.
    • Conduct information sessions and workshops.
    • Administer the Duke application process for nationally competitive scholarships such as the Boren Scholarship, the Udall Scholarship, and the US-UK Fulbright Commission Summer Institutes.
  • Coordinate NCS Communications and Marketing
    • Coordinate with Sr. Program Manager for Logistics and Communication regarding the scheduling of scholarship endorsement interviews, mock interviews, and scholarship celebrations.
    • With the OUSF Logistics team, promote Duke NCS recipients.
    • Manage Duke NCS social media.
    • Maintain Duke NCS website and scholarship database.
    • Manage Duke NCS Alumni Network and develop an alumni database for Nationally Competitive Scholarships
    • Conduct outreach to Duke NCS alumni
