Student Service Organizations Program Director, Haas Center for Public Service

This Program Director is responsible for advising and support of student organizations that engage in public service activities. The Director oversees an array of activities and advising designed to cultivate ethical and effective service and engage students in multiple public service pathways. He/she reports to and collaborates closely with the Student Development and Leadership Program Director, and helps to manage the work of the Student Outreach Coordinator. The Director is also the Haas Centerʼs primary liaison to the Student Activities and Leadership office and other student affairs units involved in student advising and major student service initiatives.

The Student Service Organizations Program Director is a permanent continuing position, at 100% FTE. Evening hours as necessary.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Develop and coordinate programs and resources to support the work of the student organizations engaged in service, including designated community service groups, political and social awareness groups, and some ethnic and cultural groups and some fraternities and sororities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate public service related trainings and workshops, including primary responsibility for the three signature workshops on the Principles of Ethical and Effective Service, Public Service Pathways and Community Partnerships.
  • As-requested advising of students and student service organizations.
  • Manage the Haas Centerʼs student-led affiliate organizations, providing ongoing advising and coordinating resources.
  • Oversee the Haas Centerʼs new student orientation programs and the programming for the launch of the academic year including New Student Leader Orientation, Stop Hunger Now and the Haas Center Open House.
  • Contribute to the development of new and innovative programs and resources that serve the students and the community.
  • Respond to emerging student needs as they relate to service activities.
  • Work with the Student Outreach and Engagement Coordinator on student advising, outreach and promotion of the Centerʼs programs. Represent the Center at various campus events.
  • Connect community partners to relevant student organizations.
  • Assist with writing and compiling of best practices and new advising materials.
  • Coordinate with the Centerʼs communications team on promotional efforts for student development, leadership and outreach.
  • Maintain and enhance the infrastructure and community of the Haas Center, including participation in unit and divisional staff meetings, and involvement in various committees and projects, with guidance from supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelorʼs degree
  • 3-5 years of related experience, including workshop and training design and facilitation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of and experience with principles and practice of student development, ethical and effective community service, and service-learning in the higher education context.
  • Knowledge and experience in addressing issues of diversity and multiculturalism and in building community among different groups in university and/or community setting.
  • Ability in advising students individually and in groups.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse constituencies including students, faculty, staff, community partners, and donors.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks with many interruptions.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible nature and a willingness to work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to public service and a willingness to support the mission and values of the Center.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred in student development, higher education, or related field.
  • Experience in program development and implementation.
  • Experience managing budgets and program funds.
