Director,  The Center for Leadership & Service University of North Texas

UNT’s Center for Leadership & Service provides programs, services, and activities designed to enhance student learning and student engagement in leadership and service.  The Center integrates learning, service and leadership to promote a lasting commitment to civic responsibility and lifelong service. The Center also promotes the retention of students by meeting the educational, informational, and involvement needs of a diverse student population.

The Director of the Center for Leadership & Service oversees the administration and operations of the Center which includes establishing and maintaining long and short term planning for the Center’s development in conjunction with goals of the University.   The Director establishes and maintain contacts with external organizations, which includes government and private agencies, professional organizations, and other colleges and universities to aid and foster the provision of quality leadership and service programs for students and the University community.  The Director supervises the Coordinator for Leadership Programs, Coordinator for Community Service Programs, student employees, volunteer student leadership boards and graduate assistants.  This position reports to the Executive Director of Career & Leadership Development in the Division of Student Affairs.  

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative leadership in the development, coordination, and implementation of educational student community engagement programs that enhance student learning and civic and social responsibility.
  • Prepare and administers the budget for the programs and services under the Center for Leadership & Service
  • Train and supervise Center for Leadership & Service staff and students.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, alumni and community organizations in the development of programs that connect UNT with the community and student leadership development.
  • Serve on the QEP committee for community engagement, “Soar beyond the Classroom”.
  • Select, train, advise and support the Student Leadership Boards (IMPACT) that are housed within the Center for Leadership & Service.
  • Facilitate the Alternative Service Breaks Program including site leader training, participant recruitment and site selection.
  • Co-Advise UNT SERVES!, the service-learning residential community with the College of Public Affairs & Community Service.
  • Serve as the administrator for the Leadership Studies Academic Certificate and oversee the leadership courses.
  • Develop relationships with community organizations to create opportunities for community engagement.
  • Work with academic and student affairs departments across campus in the development of collaborative programs related to community engagement and leadership development.
  • Supervise large service initiatives such as the Big Event, Make a Difference Day, Canstruction, Eaglethon and other events to increase student involvement.
  • Advance and support the development of leadership training and programs offered for UNT students including the Leadership Studies Certificate, leadership training programs, retreats and the LeaderShape Institute.
  • Serve on committees and task forces as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in Higher Education or related field and three years of experience in student community engagement and leadership development programs.
