Director, Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good, University of San Francisco

The minimum requirements for the position, as listed on the link above are:

  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience in fundraising and resource development.

At least 5 years of successful experience in public service program development and developing community/civic engagement.

  • Personal commitment and ability to form community partner relationships—working with local and global marginalized communities and advocating on their behalf.
    ● Knowledge of local government and politics in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area (including Sacramento) and/or Washington, DC.
    ● A commitment to the University’s mission, a demonstrated interest in public service, and an understanding of the functions of an academic institution.
    ● Several years of advanced knowledge and experience with: service-learning theory and practice, community service and volunteer management models and best practices, civic engagement theory, models of campus-community partnerships.
    ● Extensive managerial experience, with a supervisory style that exemplifies a collaborative approach.
    ● Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with diverse populations in an urban, multicultural environment is necessary.
    ● High level of cultural competency including sensitivity to race, class, and ethical dilemmas that may arise from the development of strong reciprocal campus community partnerships.
    ● Knowledge of research scholarship consistent with the mission and vision of the McCarthy Center is highly valued.
    ● Exceptional analytic and critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of challenges.
    ● Skill at building consensus and team building among a number of stakeholders within an educational and broader community.
    ● Master’s degree in related field (equivalent experience may be considered). EdD, PhD, or other advanced degree preferred.
