Volunteer Coordinator, Tucker Fundation, Dartmouth College

INTRODUCTION TO THE TUCKER FOUNDATION The Tucker Foundation at Dartmouth College is a respected and dynamic center of community service activity, community-based learning, character development, social justice education and spiritual exploration.

The mission of the William Jewett Tucker Foundation is to educate Dartmouth students for lives of purpose and ethical leadership, rooted in service, spirituality and social justice.

INTRODUCTION TO THE POSITION The Volunteer Coordinator will work to impact local area New Hampshire and Vermont schools and non-profit organizations through development and coordination of student volunteer programs.

Duties include: program management, student learning outcome and reflection development, student advising, participant selection, student orientation and training, supervision, faculty/staff/community partner outreach, assessment, and capacity building for program sustainability.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION As Volunteer Coodinator at the Tucker Foundation you will implement and advise student volunteer programs. Working within a local service ‘team’ of students and professional administrators, you will oversee the logistics and implementation of 25 programs.

The program provides approximately 40,000 hours of service annually, through the passion and work of 1,200 students. Child and youth mentoring, food and shelter, educational enrichment, and community healthcare are focal emphases in the program. Every week, students are building affordable houses, cooking community dinners, mentoring area youth, tutoring reading to adults and children, leading outdoor challenges, assisting in free health clinics or visiting “adopted” grandparents.

Specific duties are as follows:

-Program Coordination: Assisting the Program Officer for Local Service, you will advise and manage the local service programs. This includes designing and implementing recruitment plans and events; monitoring the status of ongoing volunteer projects to ensure good practices and community collaboration; and providing consultation to students and student groups on project ideas.

-Student Staff and Leadership Training: In this role, you will supervise current student staff in their daily duties while identifying and facilitating leadership training opportunities. You will also work to coordinate the recruitment, selection, and training of student staff. Lastly, you will work to promote and teach diversity and intercultural competency principles through training modules.

-Community Liaison: You will maintain productive working relationships with partner agencies, schools, and non-profit organizations.
