Director of the Center for Social Concerns, Gannon University

Gannon University, a diocesan Catholic University, seeks to fill the position of Director of the Center for Social Concerns. The Director will work closely across campus with administrators, faculty and students to advance University-wide initiatives that facilitate meaningful work both in and outside of the classroom, and reports to the Associate Vice President for Mission and Ministry. The Center serves as a key component of the University’s “commitment to serve others, particularly the poor, underprivileged and vulnerable members of society.” (The Application of Ex corde Ecclesiae for the United States, Part I, #7) Because Gannon seeks inclusiveness through diversity, the University invites women and members of underrepresented groups to apply.

The Director develops programs to educate students in Catholic Social Teaching and to facilitate its implementation; develops opportunities for student service, civic engagement and leadership development; partners with Campus Ministry in implementing Empowered by the Spirit (USCCB) to achieve the mission of the University; collaborates with the Director of Service-Learning to foster effective relationships with community partners and to facilitate the meaningful involvement of students in community service opportunities; writes competitive proposals and administers grants to further service initiatives; promotes university-wide peace and justice initiatives; oversees planning and participates personally in alternative break service trips (domestic and international); represents the Center through reports to and participation on University committees and other collaborative activities; and collaborates with colleagues at other regional colleges and universities.

Requirements include: a bachelor’s degree with a strong preference for a master’s degree in Theological Studies, Social Work, Education or Public Administration and four-plus years of professional experience in higher education. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of and commitment to the mission of the University; understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and its applicability in the setting of higher education; to work effectively with college age students and collaboratively with other University staff; have a background and commitment to community service; organizational and communication skills; and a valid driver’s license.
