Director of Civic Engagement, McDonough Center for Leadership and Business, Marietta College

Reporting to the Dean of the McDonough Center, the Director provides leadership in two areas: (1) the action component of the Center’s McDonough Leadership Program; and (2) the effort by the College to foster service-learning, social justice curriculum, and volunteerism.

Established in 1987 as one of the most comprehensive undergraduate leadership development programs in the United States, the McDonough Leadership Program advances three principles under a liberal-arts curriculum: knowledge, action, and growth. The Director focuses primarily on the action component, which includes experiential education, service-learning, social justice initiatives, and community outreach. The Director has a 12-month administrative contract with the following responsibilities: develop community-service projects (including Make a Difference Day and Community Service Day), administer the “action” component of the McDonough Leadership Program, and teach a light course load. The Director also oversees the activities coordinated by the Community Service Coordinator and the Nonprofits LEAD Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify, candidates must hold a master’s degree in a relevant field of study. The ideal candidate would also have some experience in a nonprofit organization. Candidates also should demonstrate strong communication skills (some teaching experience a plus) and a passion for connecting leadership development, the nonprofit sector, social justice, and community outreach.
