Executive Director, Future Generations & Future Generations Graduate School

The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership to advance the shared mission of both organizations, which
operate under the same roof and are dedicated to promoting equitable and sustainable community change and conservation. Future Generations, the international civil society organization has been recently re-cast as an Incubator of Social Change Innovations. The accredited Future Generations Graduate School of Applied Community Change serves as the education arm that extends the innovations through currents students and a global alumni network that is engaged in applied research and community action. Both organizations focus on empowering the world’s most marginalized populations for social
change—and in parallel, engaging communities and government at all levels in partnerships to be active stewards of the natural environment.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership and management to both institutions to achieve their strategic goals
  • Collaborate with international Future Generations affiliates in Peru, Afghanistan, China, India and Haiti
  • Represent Future Generations to the Board of Trustees, prospective donors, current and prospective partner organizations,
    foundations and government funding agencies, accrediting board and alumni
  • Uphold the core values, institutional vision, and mission statement

Qualities:

  • An essential collaborative leadership style with outstanding administrative experience in an academic environment with international experience
  • Proven negotiation and mediation skills, with particular emphasis on international negotiations with governmental and
    community leaders
  • Ability to facilitate partnership with a desire to make alliances rather than go it alone; that is, an ability to create and
    lead teams, both within and outside the organization
  • Demonstrated success working in complex cross-cultural settings and skills to interact/communicate effectively with
    external agencies, donors, policy makers and the public
  • Demonstrated knowledge of innovation trends in social change
  • Willingness to travel domestically as well as internationally to visit country programs, graduate students and alumni and
    speak on behalf of both the organizations.
  • Able to relocate to the headquarters located in West Virginia.
