Need to use Photoshop or edit a video? Use one of the 8 media workstations located just outside of Media Services on the 1st floor of the library. There are 5 Macs and 3 PCs that have software (Microsoft Office, Apple iLife and Adobe Creative Suite) and equipment to create films, websites and other projects. There’s also a large screen collaboration stations with the same software located by the elevator on the 1st floor. Ask the elite student at the library Information Desk for assistance if needed.

Ms. Fumiko Soda, a librarian from Seinan Gakuin University in Fukuoka, Japan, toured Belk Library Monday, Sept. 14 — part of a nationwide study of exemplary learning commons.  Belk’s first floor is an early example of such a commons, in which technology, library, and support services such as media, writing, and tutoring are combined in one location.

Wondering what happened to Journal Finder? It’s still here, but it’s now part of our new multi-function search box.

To look for specific journals, magazines and newspapers, click on the Journal Titles tab, type in the title you’re looking for and click Search. It’s as simple as that!

Belk Library recently unveiled a new home page.

Features include a multi-function search box for the library catalog, database articles, journals, and Google Scholar; quick access to frequently used information such as hours, off-campus access, and popular databases; current library news from E-Net and Belk Library’s blog; and resources specifically for students, faculty, and those studying abroad.

Belk Library is introducing nine Playaway sound media players, which are two-ounce devices that can hold an entire audio book. The players were purchased to satisfy growing interest among patrons in audio books and new technology.

“The whole point of the Playaway is that it’s combining content with an easy player all in one,” says Patrick Rudd, coordinator of library access services. “So you basically put in a AAA battery and your ear buds, and you listen to a whole book.”

The sound media player does not require downloading and enables users to listen to an entire book without the interruption of changing CDs. The player also marks stopping points, keeping track of where users left off and can hold up to 80 hours worth of content.
