14th Annual Teaching and Learning Conference at Elon University

Elon University welcomes area university and college educators to the 14th Annual Teaching and Learning Conference on August 17, 2017. The conference is jointly sponsored by Elon’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) and Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT), and attendance costs are covered by these sponsors.

Conference Theme

Our conference theme this year is Teaching Choices, Learning Consequences. In interactive sessions and pedagogy presentations, participants will explore evidence-based strategies for creating significant learning experiences for students as well as the impacts, both intended and unintended, of our teaching choices. We will also reflect on what both we, and our students, can or should learn from those choices.

Opening Plenary Speaker

Our opening plenary speaker for this year will be Dr. David B. Daniel, Professor of Psychology at James Madison University. Dr. Daniel has over 25 years of university teaching experience and his work bridges research and practice. His scholarship focuses on “evidence demonstrated” knowledge that can be used to inform individual teaching practices and educational policy. He has been recognized for his outstanding efforts to translate research on the brain and learning into classroom practice and has been given the Society for Teaching of Psychology’s Teaching Excellence Award, the 2013 Transforming Education Through Neuroscience Award, and he is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science.
