AmeriCorps VISTA Leaders (2), NC Campus Compact

North Carolina Campus Compact is currently recruiting to fill TWO AmeriCorps VISTA Leader positions. Our VISTA Leaders will support 25 full-time VISTA members serving with our NC Afterschool Corps and NC Hunger Corps.

The NC Afterschool Corps & NC Hunger Corps are teams of AmeriCorps VISTA members who are placed at a college, university, or community-based organization to build the capacity of programs that serve low-income people AND connect colleges and universities to their communities. NC Afterschool Corps members support K-12 afterschool programs, while Hunger Corps members support on- or off-campus hunger relief programs, including those assisting low-income or disadvantaged college students and staff.

The VISTA Leaders serve in the NC Campus Compact state office located at Elon University in Elon, NC.

Duties of the VISTA Leader include: providing program and member support, leading member recruitment, monitoring member performance and activity logs, and planning professional development training and events.

All VISTA Leader candidates MUST HAVE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED a full term of full-time service with any AmeriCorps program or with Peace Corps. Strong candidates will have a background in youth development or hunger relief, as well as a passion for VISTA’s poverty-fighting mission, knowledge of VISTA rules and guidelines, and a commitment to strengthening national service. Familiarity with concepts and modes of higher education civic and community engagement – including service-learning, community-based research, and volunteerism – is preferred.

VISTA Leaders serve full-time for 1 year. Standard VISTA Leader benefits include: bi-weekly living allowance ($14,713/year), settling-in bonus (if eligible), choice of end-of-service education award ($6,000) or cash stipend ($3,000), healthcare benefits (not insurance), and childcare assistance (if eligible).  NC Campus Compact also provides a professional development allowance, monthly housing support ($200/month, if eligible), Elon University parking pass, in-service travel reimbursement, and access to university facilities and events.
