Director, Jewett Center for Community Partnerships, Wesleyan University

Reporting into Academic Affairs, the Director provides administrative and programmatic leadership for the Jewett Center for Community Partnerships (JCCP) at Wesleyan University. (Full posting here.)

The JCCP has the mission of developing mutually beneficial partnerships between Wesleyan and the surrounding community that enhance students’ academic and civic development while simultaneously meeting community priorities. These partnerships involve sending Wesleyan students into the community, bringing community members onto campus to work with students, and educating students regarding how nonprofit organizations operate. The Director also provides direct oversight for the JCCP’s Office of Community Service and Volunteerism, the Center for Prison Education (CPE), and the WESU radio station.

The Director supports the University’s liberal arts mission by working with departments to engage faculty, staff, and students to weave civic engagement into the fabric of Wesleyan’s academic, community, and student endeavors.

Particularly close partners are the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life, the Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship, the Center for the Arts, and the College of the Environment.

Responsibilities include:

Oversee the planning and implementation of the JCCP and related departmental services and activities, including the development of educational and service opportunities for students that encourage social thought and engagement. This includes helping to support the University’s service learning projects and courses.

Develop and manage partnerships with public, not-for-profit, and private organizations that enhance community and university priorities. These partnerships typically involve Wesleyan students working with local organizations, either on or off campus.

Teach a partial-credit course each semester on nonprofit structures. The current model for this course has students work directly with a local nonprofit to understand how nonprofit organizations work. The Director may use this structure or develop a viable alternative.

Supervise the staff and manage the budget of the JCCP, the Office of Community Service and Volunteerism, and the CPE. Supervise the staff and provide oversight of the budget for WESU.
