Assistant Director of Student Community Engagement Programs, Elon University

The Assistant Director will assist with providing leadership for co-curricular programs in the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement. These programs are designed to develop the next generation of engaged citizens and scholars dedicated to partnering with communities to create innovative solutions to society’s most pressing challenges. This position will oversee the following functional areas: alternative breaks (domestic and international), first-year service initiatives, validation, Habitat for Humanity, outreach and collaboration, and public relations. Coordination with community partners and university departments in student affairs and academic affairs departments across campus is an essential part of the work.

Master’s degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, or a related discipline required with a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in a higher education setting. Experience with supervising students is desired. A valid driver’s license with a driving record insurable by the university is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with advising, developing, and implementing student community service programs, coordinating alternative breaks experiences, and teaching. Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, advising, project management, budget management, and computer skills are required. The individual must enjoy working in a collaborative environment with undergraduate students, community agencies, and staff/faculty members

The Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, in partnership with local and global communities, advances student learning, leadership, and citizenship to prepare students for lives of active community engagement within a complex and changing world. This preparation is grounded in an ethic of service that appreciates multiple perspectives, creates opportunities that are affirming and empowering to all, and responds to the needs of our diverse communities. The Kernodle Center houses the Academic Service Learning program and Elon Volunteers!, the university’s student-run and student-led umbrella organization for service. The Kernodle Center staff consists of the Director/Assistant Dean, Associate Director, Assistant Director for Community Partnerships, Assistant Director of Student Community Engagement Programs, Campus Kitchen Coordinator, Program Assistant, 3 student Executive Directors, and 140+ student leaders who work in partnership with community agencies.
